Lucern, Luzurne, or Luzanne

Why does a country (Switzerland) have 2 cities with such similar names. Well, we ened up in Luzanne instead of Lucerne. Apparently it is a common mixup, and just meant another 3 to 4 hours on a train ( I am going to blame Hans for it!) They hav thier own money, (not euros). tis very pretty money.
